Tag Selection

Hello - I am curious as to how tag selection and tagging is supposed to work. Currently, we create a few tag sets, and then create relevant tags inside those tag sets. The problem comes when you go to an image and try to add a tag - there is NO reference to the set it came from! This seems strange, since if you have lots of tags that are divided into sets, wouldn't you want to browse through the sets to find the tag you want? On another note, this is not a very good way to store metadata about an image, since tags are not really controlled and they aren't usable by all users. If every user can "Tag" something, that's just about as good as having a plain text field where everyone writes whatever they want. Just some thoughts, I know there is on-going development. My real concern right now is being able to see what group a tag is from when you try to use it.
Thanks.

Perhaps part of the problem you're having comes from the fact that tag sets are optional. They are also designed and visualised within OMERO.insight as more of a top down convenience grouping rather than an implicit, enforced structure.
I assume you have seen the tagging movie from the feature list?
http://cvs.openmicroscopy.org.uk/snapsh ... 2-tags.movTags as they are implemented are certainly no substitute for controlled vocabulary choices by a group of scientists. While they can be used to enable such metadata about an image the "strict" feature set is certainly missing as you've outlined.
In what context would you like to be able to use tags? Can you tell us a little about the scientific use case you have?

Neither me...
In O.Insight, I don't find the red icone of tagset like in the movie.
When I import images from O.I, I can optionally add a tag or a tag set, but in the tag tab of O.I I don't see them.

I think these tags might belong to another user. The tag dialog allows you to choose other users' Tags (and Tag Groups) as well as your own. But when you browse in the left-hand tree in Insight, you are browsing just the Tags / Tag Groups for a single user.

One way you can have some control over tags is to treat a particular user's tags as a controlled set. E.g. the Group owner (PI) creates a set of tags for the group to use. This is the "official" set. This is shown in
http://cvs.openmicroscopy.org.uk/snapsh ... sions2.movThe other members of the lab should use this set, but can't modify it.

No, I have check it.
I have no popup into the windows Tag of Import(of O.I), but I have created one more ...and it doesn't appear into the tab Tag.

Yes, when I add collaborative people into the group. I also see their Tag

I created a ticket for browsing by tag-group hierarchy in the Tag dialog
