32 bit image question

I have a question about viewing 32 bit grey scale tiff images. This is not related to ticket 10838. I have seen a few discussions about this but none have really solved it. I was working under the assumption that OMERO could not generate thumbnails for these images so I was just living with that. Recently I have had thumbnails generated from some images but not others. When I look at the pixel range I do not see any difference between the image that makes a thumbnail and those that don't. If there is something I could tweak in my installation to that I always get thumbnails it would be great. I attempted to attach two example tiff images but I get an invalid file format error from them.

Could you give us more information about the pixels range and ideally send us some images?
We do have a limited support of certain pixels type.
Thanks

Could you let me know how to upload them for you. I tried uploading as an attachment to this but received an invalid file format error. The one that generated a thumbnail looks like it has a max pixel range of about 12,000 which is somewhat lower than normal. The other is around 100K. I recall reading a post about the max pixel range not supporting true 32 bit. That might be it.

hi
You can upload the file via our QA system
http://qa.openmicroscopy.org.uk/qa/upload/If the format is not listed, you can create a zip

Thank you. I uploaded two files. 700.tif and 800.tif. These are from a Li-Core Odyssey scanner. The 700.tif file will not create a thumbnail and thus cannot be viewed even with the full image viewer. The 800 will. Usually OMERO will not create thumbnails with images from this scanner.

There is certainly a difference between the two images; I can confirm I can reproduce this exactly as you describe, though it's not yet clear what the difference is between the two files (pixel intensity range?). Both are floating point, which OMERO does not yet fully support.
I will file a separate ticket regarding import of these floating point images for the imagej importer, which doesn't work well, and 700.TIF is also not viewable with the showinf tool.
