Feature Requests: Automatic Description Import

Hi,

during an OMERO workshop a user who already annotates his images directly at the device came up with the important issue that those annotations are apparently not directly imported to the Description meta info field in OMERO.

I think this would be a very useful feature, since users generally wouldn't want to dig for their original annotation in the Acquisition/Original Metadata tab just to copy and paste it back to Description.

Cheers,

Tristan

Hi Tristan,

can you give us more details? What instrument is this? Do you know where these annotations are stored in the model? Are you seeing them imported elsewhere?

Thanks,
~Josh.

Hi Josh,

most instruments will give you an option of adding a description to an image. For example, with our Leica SP5 II, you can right click on the image in the "Experiments" tab and click on properties, which will allow you to put in a separate description per image (with a LIF file being able to hold several images, each with a description).

I haven't checked this for the ZEN software in detail, yet, but I'm quite sure there is a similar option there. AFAIK, not many users actively work with these descriptions at the moment (partly because it's not placed at a very accessible location), but some do, and they expect the metadata import in OMERO to place those at the logical location (i.e. straight in the description field, not hidden somewhere in the original metadata at the acquisition tab).

Cheers,

Tristan

Hi Tristan,

I'm not sure whether or not this field will make into Image.Description field since there may be *another* field which is already being mapped there. We'll talk it through and get back to you. Regardless, you're right that the information should be **somewhere**. Could you possibly upload a small file where you've put some dummy description for us?

Thanks. ~Josh.

Hi Tristan,

just checking back in in case I've missed something -- Tristan have you tried sending any data?

Frohes Neues,
~Josh.

Hi Josh,

sorry I did not subscribe to this topic and missed you last answer. I'll be on vacation now, but I'll upload something as soon as I'm back.

Regards,

Tristan
