question dropbox

Postby LeroyAlex » Wed Jan 14, 2015 4:29 pm

Hi,

Just a naive question but you only name windows server 2008 as good to go to install dropbox.
Is windows server 2012R2 good too?
Then, in the omero documentation example (section 8.1), i dont get if the command are entered in the usual CLI or not.. I saw a cli-import paragraph reference but if i understood well i cannot access it on windows.
In fact, as a newbie i m completely clueless, and i can't see where you explain how to set up the link between an omero file on a laptop or microscope computer and omero dropbox.

Best,

As it stands OMERO.dropbox won't run on a Windows Server 2012r2 but it could certainly be configured to do so if you were happy to edit a small Python file in your server distribution. Unfortunately we don't have a suitable server to hand that we can log in to in order to provide a patch ourselves. If this is something you'd be comfortable doing them let me know and I'll provide more details.

You don't need to do anything at the CLI to use OMERO.dropbox in its default configuration. You simply need to create directories for each user under the DropBox directory of your OMERO data repository, as shown in 8.1.2 of the PDF or here https://www.openmicroscopy.org/site/support/omero5/sysadmins/dropbox.html#using-dropbox in our online docs (though our example uses Unix-style paths). A user then simply copies or moves their image files from the acquisition computer, or their laptop, into their DropBox directory on the OMERO server and they should be imported automatically.

Hi,

Sadly, i think i'm not competent to edit the python script you talked about, but i'll try to talk with our computer staff to see if they have the time to look into it.
Maybe, you can give me the details you mentioned so i can forward them to our computer staff.

Best,

Alex.

We are looking at making it possible to try to start DropBox on untested versions of Windows by making a small change to a configuration file. This will remove the need to hack any of the underlying code. Hopefully this fix will help you in your particular use case.

Hi Alex,

Just to follow up on this, the latest release of our server, 5.0.7, available today, will allow you to run OMERO.dropbox on Windows platforms beyond the restricted set we have tested. This involves the setting of a system environment variable to relax that restriction and is documented here:

https://www.openmicroscopy.org/site/support/omero5/sysadmins/dropbox.html

If you do use DropBox on your Windows Server 2012R2 system then we'd be happy to hear any feedback, positive or negative.

Cheers,

Colin

Hi Colin,

Thx for keeping me update, i will see with our IT guys for the transition to omero 5.0.7 or i'd rather say 5.0.8 now.
And i will let you know if we try to set up omero.dropbox on our windows server.

I have one question regarding the update of Omero: i think the current release does not add the possibility to save the images from imageJ directly to Omero, right? I assumed it was due to be released within the 5.1.0 omero update and i wanted to know if this version was delayed?

Also, on a more friendly note, i'd like to ask if you have an official name to call the omero users like "omeroist" or something like that?

Best,

Hi

Saving the image from imageJ to OMERO will be available in 5.1.0. We are planning to release it at the end of next month. ROI or overlay drawn on the image will also be saved to OMERO.
No official name yet for OMERO users. Suggestion welcome!!

Cheers

Hi,

Thanks for your answer.
I have anotther question regarding the last upgrade of Omero.
In 5.0.5, when you move images between groups, even if those groups are both read-annotate, you loose all your tags/attachments, is this fixed in 5.0.8 or the 5.1.0 version to come?
If not, it'd be nice to create ticket about cause it's quite trouble to remake all the tags.

Best,

Alex.

Hi again,

Also a lot of the users ask me if they can be warned by e-mail when someone comment one of their image.
Is that possible?

I am sorry if this is not the right place to ask this kind of question, please show me where i should post.

Best,

Alex.

It's not currently possible (5.0) but it should be possible to add that during the 5.1 line. Thanks for the idea!

This is a fine place to ask, but it's preferred if you could start a new thread for a new question. Thanks!

All the best,
~Josh.
