Altering Owner/group of Image at SQL level

I am looking to allow images to be moved to a public group from a private group, and am looking to do this via altering the sql table to change what group it is in. Is there a better way of doing this, or any function already set up do to this?

The short answer is no there isn't. Modifying an image's group semantics is a very involved process, which is why we have not implemented such functionality already. It is however very high on our list of priorities and all status information can be examined here:
