connection period

I noticed sometimes that after clients connect to the server, the user must keep 'doing' something to keep connection active, otherwise the the connection will break down very shortly, saying 1-5 minutes idle time.

is it possible to extend the waiting period by some settings?

All clients implement an idle "ping" every 60 seconds for just this reason. Are you perhaps having some connection problems that are unrelated to idleness? Have you looked at the log files of any of your clients to see if there are any connection errors? You can see these in:

I was also having the same problem. Seemed there was problem with the TCP/IP settings.
