Publicly available web server to test capabilities

Hi,

I just learned about OMERO, and it looks very interesting. I am primarily interested in a web-based system that I could use to upload, annotate, share and download digitized slides. I would rather test a working system to understand the capabilities better, before investing time into installing a separate one in our lab.

Is there a public web-based server where I could try to view/annotate images and get familiar with the performance and other capabilities of the system?

Hi AF,

OMERO certainly sounds like it fits the bill for your use case. It's certainly used for similar, e.g. digital pathology, for the upload, annotation and sharing of slides.

How many slides do you need to demo, and what is the file format?

We do indeed have a demo server for anyone to try: instructions are here, and as that page descibes, you can register for an account here.

It's worth noting that the processing time on the demo server may be slow (at the moment) for your particular set of files.

We have a branch of OMERO with new technology which will be released very shortly, OMERO 5, which will perform dramatically faster for many formats, including many slide formats.

A public demo server running OMERO 5 will be appearing in the near future as well.
