Insight viewer: Switch to next/previous image

Dear all,

I've been looking at the possibility when inside the full scale image viewer of OMERO.Insight to switch to the next image of the dataset from within the viewer. As far as I can tell the only possible way is to close an image, and open the next. This feature would be very useful when reviewing a large amount of images quickly.

Alternatively, the thumbnails could be used, but their quality is too low for some of the things we would like to review in images. Out of interest. is there any way to increase the thumbnail quality?

I've been unable to find feature request for either in Trac.

That is a feature we are thinking to add and only one a new window when the user requests it. We have done some preliminary work (mock-up/investigation).
In the meantime you could use the preview tab on the right-hand side.
This is not a full size image but it allows you to manipulate the rendering settings and view the image in a better quality that the thumbnail itself.

After working with OMERO for a few months, I think the behavior of the full image viewer is causing quite a few annoyances. IMHO for a tool that offers a replacement for managing images it is quite crucial for its image viewer to work fluently and intuitively.

To be specific, I have these annoyances with the viewer

- As mentioned above, the no button/key for next/previous image in dataset
- The difference in zooming behavior for non pyramided files. I.E the zoom does not work with scrollwheel in the insight viewer.
- No panning of the image using the mouse for non pyramided files
- In the web viewer, full screening the window will not recenter the image for pyramided images (does work for non pyramided images)
- The Insight viewer does not remember the window size it was set to, but opens in a difference size each time. Sometimes this size is much bigger than the screen (dual screen setup, this might be the cause).

Thanks for your feedback.
We have made few recent improvements to the Viewer but they will not be included in our coming release (5.0.3)
I will add the missing items to the relevant trello card. FYI, we are moving away from trac ticket for certain tasks.

Could you clarify:

Do you mean in the central panel, having a previous next button and display the next image on the right hand side.

- The difference in zooming behavior for non pyramided files. I.E the zoom does not work with scrollwheel in the insight viewer.

This is a change we will need to think about since some users use the mousewheel to scroll through z.
This is implemented on some software. The behaviour between clients needs to be aligned.

No, I mean in the full image viewer. I would like to be able to quickly browse through a dataset. Preferably using the arrow keys, or a button within the full image viewer itself. What would already help, if it was an option to open an image in an existing or a new window.

Hmm.. even though this behavior is already the case for pyramided files? Would it make sense to change the scrollwheel behavior depending on whether there is a z stack available? BTW, ctrl or shift + scroll does already work, but this does not center its zoom on the mouse position.
