Missing tabs in Measurement Tool in insight

Postby hgoff » Wed Mar 19, 2014 12:04 pm

Hello,

I have opened a tif image in insight and wanted to mark ROI (line). I noticed that I only have two tabs in the measurement tool - 'Manager' and 'Inspector' all the other features are missing (results etc...). It is a large tiled image.

Any advice will be helpful
Thank you

We have disabled various functions that require Insight to access raw pixel data for "Big Images" (tiled images). This is because the pixel data itself is not available in a "zoomed-out tile" format, so you'd need raw pixel data at 100% size which could be a very large amount of data to move to the client.

However, you should still be able to draw ROIs, just not get the pixel data.

Thank you for your reply,

So what is the common work around with large images? to manually collect and write measurements, or rescale the image to manageable size?

Thank you in advance for any information.

I can't tell you of a "common work around" for this, since it's not a workflow I've handled before.
There's no functionality in OMERO to rescale an image.

However, you could crop the image around the regions you're interested in.
Draw rectangles on the Big Image using the measurement ROI tool and save them. Then select the Big Image and go to run Script -> util_scripts -> Images From ROIs (see screenshot). Just run this with the default values and you should get a new image created for each rectangle in the Big Image (these will all be in a new Dataset - you may need to refresh to see this). Now you can work with these smaller images in the usual way.

Hope that helps,

Will.
